the first time i grabbed a golf club... the trainer told me to align both thumbs in a line down the shaft (both thumbs on the top side of the grip)

then i saw the DTG tutorial video and it seems like the left hand should be rotated a little bit clockwise so the thumb rests on the right side of the grip (instead of the top) and the right thumb is not on top of the grip either but more like diagonal... this is the only way i can imagine both V's pointing to the right shoulder...

i've gotten used to a grip with 2 thumbs on top... is that bad? or are they both correct?

just ordered a new set of tour tubby Very Happy can't wait for them to get here... but it would be a good idea to use them with the proper grip Razz

thanks for any advice!

Steven,
Having both of your thumbs right down the top of the grip is ok but not the most desirable grip because it doesn't give you as much control of the golf club and is considered a very weak grip which for must would result in misses going right or slicing the golf ball. Both V's pointing at your right shoulder is a very good neutral grip and a position I would like to see all of my students start.

Thanks,
Jeff

hey jeff,

thanks for your reply.
that's exactly the problem i'm having. when i try the grip you recommend, i feel like my left wrist is being forcefully rotated clockwise...

could this be the problem>
on address, my club is right between my legs (center, aligned to the zipper)

on the DTG video i see the club kind of placed between the zipper and the right foot

so i assume by placing the clubhead a little closer to the right foot, the left arm and hand can be in a natural position...

is this correct?

That is correct, With every club in you bag excluding your putter at address the butt end of the grip should be pointing more towards your left belt loop rather then at your zipper. This allows the club to sole properly and aligns the left arm and the shaft better providing more consistency.

wow, can't believe i've been doing it the wrong way all this time...
i'll try it out once the new tour + tubby arrive!

but for hybrids, woods and driver... aren't you supposed to place the ball closer to your left foot?

so if you grip it the way you recommend, but address the ball near your left foot, you would be forming like a triangle with your left arm and the shaft, is that correct?

Yes that is correct, with every club the shaft should point at your left belt loop. With the driver the ball is played off the inside of your left heel but the driver doesn't have any offset therefor the left arm stay in a relaxed position hanging down but from the front it should look like a straight line up the shaft up the arm. see picture below.

Thanks,
Jeff
