Hi, first post.
I can hit my driver 200-250 (including roll), but I am less accurate and much shorter with my 3 wood. I have tried (and own) 5 different 3s and was looking for a wood for an 80-90 mph swing. I am usually in the short grass off the tee (or the rough just in front of the fairway lol).
There are too many choices! The ones that caught my eye are: T + HIMO Fairway; Grand Hawk Evil Eye Fairway; Integra SoooLong Quadratic Fairway.
I'm figuring on a senior flex shaft and a compound or cord grip.
Thanks in advance. |

Shortgrass,
Most golfer struggle to hit a 3 wood off the ground and will actually typically hit there 5 wood farther and straighter. This is because without the use of a tee to help the ball in the air it requires an tremendous amount of club head speed to get the ball on a good launch angle with enough back spin to where the ball actually glides and doesn't knuckle. My recommendation is to take a 5 wood head and put a shaft on it with a mid kick point and make it three wood length. This will give you the 5 wood loft which will much give the ball the lift and backspin it needs but with the shaft length of the three wood which with the mid kick point will make the ball go farther.
Let me know if you have any other questions,'
Thanks,
Jeff |

I guess I didn't explain myself properly.
I am looking for a 3 wood to use off the tee when faced with a 180-200 yard par 3, or a tight fairway. Are any of the heads I mentioned appropriate.
I agree totally with your suggestions in the fairway. I hit the 5 just as far as the 3 from the short grass. And I have an 18 deg hybrid for the first cut of rough.
The 3 length for a 5 wood intrigues me. I have an extra and a shaft or two to try. Should be fun. |
