Is there a specific technique for bending (upright or flat) cast golf irons? None of the golf shops around here seem to know how to do it .. the stock answer is "Cast clubs can't be bent. You have to get clubs with the correct lie angle directly from manufacturer", or "They'll just spring back". I just don't believe them. Of course, you can only get them thru a retailer .. that only sells name brands

Sambocaesar,
There is some truth to what these retailers might be telling you, however more then likely they just don't want to do it. The reason being is that forged clubs use more carbon therefore making them a softer metal that is easier to bend. Most cast clubs can be bent however it takes allot more effort and risk. The risk being is if you don't know what your doing or you bend a cast club to far, or to many times there is a risk of breaking the club at the hosel. Therefore many stores wont even touch some brands of clubs due to fear of breaking them. Ping irons for years have been notorious for breakage while doing lie adjustments. This is due to how brittle the metal they use in there irons is. There are some tricks around it however. If you heat the hosel up with a torch the metal will bend easier, best have some blue away on hand to clean up the burn marks however. I hope this answers your questions

Buzz, that makes sense.
Problem around here so far, is that I have yet to find anyone who will even attempt to bend cast clubs .. they mention heating, but really are afraid of breaking.

Another method that I found while researching .. one that Ping uses (even mentioned by one of the club dealers), is to use a mallet for multiple jolts instead of applying continuous pressure. I read about this on Mitchell Repair news website. Maybe that technique is not widely known .. I guess?

Thanks
