I'm confused ... if different head manufacturers have different standards for lie angles, how is one to determine the proper lie angle for a particular club head when attempting to guage customization?

I have hit off of lie boards with current clone irons (Callaway VFT) and most all irons indicate a 2 - 3 degree upright is needed based on my swing. (I guess I could attempt to measure the lie angles for my clones).

DiamondTour static measurement guide indicates that I need a 1 degree upright adjustment.

It seems that I would have to hit the clubs that I want to have made, before I can customize them ... which came first, the egg or the chicken?

Or am I missing something that is much simpler here?

Just a few notes on your comments that you posted. There are two key factors (other then shaft and club head) when getting a set of irons that are fit to individual. You talked about the lie of the club which is important but equally important and relevant is the length. Length can have a drastic effect on what the lie should be on the irons. I have looked at and used DTG online fitting system and it does a fine job. Couple things to take into consideration however. The number it gives is based off a fundamentally sound golf swing that is on plane. If you come into the golf ball steep (hit the ball low or with a left to right ball flight) the golf clubs are more the likely going to have to be bent more upright then what the computer would suggest and vice versus. I am guessing this is why you may have been fit for something so upright, or there is the possibility the fitting you had was using a shorter golf club then what DTG is recommending. If you go by what DTG's fitting system then add +1* if you fade the ball or +2* if you have a severe slice I would say that would be a good bet for what you need if you didn't want to make any swing changes.

Lots of information in the previous post which is always appreciated.
I don't know much, but I do know this:
I had my irons fitted to the specs from the Diamond Tour fitting and I am playing the best golf of my life.

Regularly in the 70's with a low of 75 (off 13 then - now 11)
