I was lucky enough to get invited to play a private course this summer. Much to my surprise the 'driving range' was really an 'irons-only-practice-spot.' As a result, I stumbled upon one of the greatest practice sessions I have ever had.
Since the back fence was only 200yds, full-swings with the driver were out of the question. After hitting a few short & mid irons, I decide to play a little game...hitting my driver 150yds...then 180yds...then 200. It was really awkward at 1st, but after 10mins or so I found that my ball contact was better & how little effort it actually took to hit the ball to each distance. I did this by trying to maintain my same regular driver swing, but just adusted & slowed the tempo way down from the backswing through contact & follow through.
For whatever reason, when I went back to the course & went after my tee shots with my 'normal' driver swing my drives were so much better: longer, straighter & more consistent than ever.
Try it at your next practice session...& get yourself a custom-fit driver from Diamond Tour. See you on the course. Enjoy! |
