Having been a former Head Golf Professional and Teaching Professional for the last 10 years I would be happy to help you out with any questions about your swing you may have. Let me know how long you have been playing for, your age, handicap or average 18 hole score, your normal ball flight (high, low, slice, fade, draw, hook etc.) and the problem you are having. I will be happy to help diagnose the problem to the best of my abilities and give you drills to help cure your swing flaw.
Thanks,
Jeff |

Jeff, sometimes during a round I start applying to much grip pressure in my right hand. My right hand and right side take over, and this causes me to either pull to the left or hook . I know that it's best not to start getting tention in my right hand and right wrist but it just happens. What can I work on to keep constant grip pressure and avoid my right hand/side from taking over? Appreciate your advice and the Golf Tips forum. Thanks, Oran.
Handicap: 18 from white tees (mens tees)
Ball flight: draw
5 iron carry: 170-175
Right handed golfer
Slow Full Backswing
Downswing a little over aggresive but working on it. |

Oran,
Allot of the time when I teach golfers that are hooking the ball or getting too much right side involved, the first thing I do is check the grip. First make sure that your right hand grip isn't too strong. This is often the culprit over the grip pressure being too strong. Make sure the V that is made with your thumb and pointer finger on your right hand is pointing no farther right then you right shoulder.
If the grip placement seems to be ok then lets look at pressure. Try taking the golf club to the top of your backswing, then taking your right hand off and swing the club down with only your left hand. Don't try and hit balls doing the drill just try and feel your left arm guiding the club. This should help to give you the feel of not getting the right side of your body as involved.
Another great drill is to think of the club face as an extension of the back of your left hand. If gripped properly you should notice that the back of your left hand and the club face are always pointing in the same direction. Therefore if at impact if the back of your left hand is pointing at the target so should be the club head. Now make your golf swing and try and feel like you are backhanding the golf ball at impact. Do this during practice swings and while hitting golf balls. This is a great way to feel the club face at impact and to not get too aggressive with the right side or right hand.
Good Luck,
Jeff |
